Jefferson East, Inc. Updates Amid Coronavirus Concerns

As of March 16th, all Jefferson East, Inc. (JEI) staffers will be working remotely to promote social distancing to help slow the spread of the Coronavirus. To that end, both JEI offices (Jefferson Chalmers and Rivertown locations) will be closed.  All public JEI events have been cancelled, postponed or shifted to an online format.

Specifically, the March 19th Jefferson Chalmers Master Planning meeting has been cancelled.  We will notify individuals when we will restart these meetings. Please visit https://www.buildingjctogether.com to check for updates to the plan and find historic information from previous community meetings.

The 5th and 7th Precinct neighborhood CompStat meetings are shifting to an online format that will be held on the same dates & times.  For more information on these events and to participate, please email Krystal Fields, Director of Clean & Safe Programs, at kfields@jeffersoneast.org.

Our Clean & Safe work will continue, including JEI funded secondary police patrols and litter management along east Jefferson, Kercheval/Alter and St. Jean/Freud.  We will notify you if any changes to these services arise. Any questions about our Clean & Safe work, please contact Krystal Fields at the aforementioned email address.

While we will be working remotely, all of our team members will be working to support our neighbors. JEI's Housing and Neighborhood Services Team will continue to assist residents over the phone for our various programs, including assistance with Property Tax Exemptions, 0% Home Repair Loan applications.

Special provisions can be made to accommodate seniors or disabled residents. Please contact homerepair@jeffersoneast.org or contact Jacqueline Richmond, Financial Opportunity Coordinator @ 313-314-2706.

”As a final note, one of the best parts about working for Jefferson East has been how I’ve gotten to know so many great people up and down east Jefferson and in our neighborhoods.  I would just encourage everyone to look out for each other, keep tabs on our most vulnerable residents, and keep being the amazing people you are!

As a city, we’ve overcome huge challenges before and bent the arc of history. From the Detroiters who turned back the Confederacy at Gettysburg, to those who created the Arsenal of Democracy that destroyed fascism, to those that gave of their talents, treasure, and their blood in the pursuit of Civil Rights – We have proven over and over that together we can overcome any challenge if we work together.

We’ll work to keep bringing you more information over the days ahead.  And, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions on how we can all work together to meet this crisis.  I can be reached at jelling@jeffersoneast.org.

Stay strong, healthy and safe!” - Joshua R. Elling, CEO Jefferson East, Inc.
