Quick Action Results in Capture of Norma G's Burglary Suspect

Thanks to numerous tips from Jefferson Chalmers, the suspect responsible for breaking into Norma G's Carribean Cuisine restaurant is now in police custody. This help from residents, along with great video provided by Project Green Light cameras, allowed the Detroit Police Department (DPD) and Jefferson East Inc. (JEI) to jump into quick action.

Helping to keep neighborhoods safe is a priority for JEI. In partnership with the DPD, JEI raises funds to support extra police patrols. By working with Wayne State University’s Center for Urban Studies and DPD, JEI’s Neighborhood CompStat process allows us to monitor crime hot spots and develop community driven responses in our service area.

Our partnership with the AmeriCorps Urban Safety Program places team members in our neighborhoods to assist with crime prevention. All of these initiatives, implemented via our Safe Program, have resulted in significant reductions in crime within the East Jefferson Corridor and its neighborhoods.

"As JEI works to revitalize our neighborhoods and create jobs for local residents, it is vital that we continue to support a safe environment. A huge thank you to neighborhood tipsters, the Project Green Light team and our friends at the 5th precinct that helped us resolve this issue quickly." – Josh Elling - CEO, Jefferson East Inc.
