VISIT OUR EVENT PAGE HERE.It has been a busy month for 501c3 Jefferson East, Inc. (JEI) in Detroit’s east Jefferson corridor. Recently designated a National Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Jefferson East, Inc. has also announced plans to help preserve the beloved-yet-dilapidated Vanity Ballroom in Jefferson-Chalmers.  And next week, the community organization will host Jazzin’ on the River, their annual outdoor jazz event.

Jazzin’ on the River is a FREE family-friendly concert that will take place on Saturday, September 17 at A.B. Ford Park (100 Lakewood St., Detroit 48215) on the Detroit River in Jefferson-Chalmers. The event is noon-8 p.m.Additionally, in an effort to bridge relations with neighbors Grosse Pointe Park, this year’s Jazzin’ will feature a cross-border after-party celebration at 9 p.m. at  Atwater in the Park (1175 Lakepointe, Grosse Pointe Park 48230).

The after-party will feature renowned jazz bassist and professor of jazz bass at Michigan State University, Rodney Whitaker and others.“This is such an important event for our residents, and it also highlights the riverfront and canal communities we have over here. People are always amazed by how gorgeous Alfred Brush Park is – it’s one of the prettiest waterfront views in the city,” says Joshua R. Elling, executive director at JEI.“Also, we are so happy to join with our Grosse Pointe Park neighbors for the after-party. It’s good to celebrate of our shared resources and interests. It’s an important partnership and we are excited to see it grow,” Elling says.

This year’s event will also feature:
